New York Water Taxi recently launched a page on its website dedicated to the new ferry route from Yonkers Pier, which will likely be expanded to the Haverstraw Ferry Landing sometime in August or sooner, depending on operation dynamics. The ferry from Yonkers is scheduled to launch on the morning of May 1, 2007. The trip will cost commuters $12.00 one-way, $110 for a block of 10 tickets, and $440 for a block of 40 tickets. From Yonkers, the trip is expected to take about 40 minutes to the World Financial Center Pier and about 55 minutes to Pier 11 at the base of Wall Street (the trip will take longer from Haverstraw, by about another 15-20 minutes). Unfortunately, the Haverstraw-Yonkers-Lower Manhattan Ferry Service has been cancelled/discontinued for that past 3 years. Officials have given no word on whether or not the service will ever be revived. Considering the current budget situation, it may be a long time before this service comes back.

An interesting concept: If you already commute to Lower Manhattan by ferry from Weehawken, NJ (assuming you drive from North Rockland), you will likely save at least 10-20 minutes on your commute with the new ferry service from Haverstraw. The amount of time could be even greater when considering traffic on the Palisades Parkway, or Garden State Parkway, and then more traffic near the George Washington Bridge and on the approach roads to the Port Imperial Ferry Terminal in Weehawken, NJ. Another point worth mentioning is the long walk from your car after you’ve parked at the huge Port Imperial Ferry Parking Lot; then, of course, waiting for the ferry to launch and the ferry ride itself. I think the savings with the Haverstraw-Lower Manhattan Ferry could be incredible.
I think it is a great idea that will aid in less reliance on personal means of transportation in the future. I am a junior in college and am highly considering positions in the financial district in the years ahead after i graduate.With the amount of people traveling to NYC from Rockland become greater each year, i feel this would be a much more convenient, economical, and more conservation minded approach to transporting people to their jobs.
Probably one of the most expensive commutes, aside from helicopter! If you have the money, then do it! It will surely save you the headache of switching to a subway train at grand central. All the subway cars during the commute to WFC are packed in the morning anyway, forget the 4,5,6! Take the ferry…
This is true; but, I can agree, the subway in the morning to financial district is a mess, especially the 6 from Grand Central in the morning. So it looks like Tuesday, May 1 will be the start date for this new ferry service. Enjoy the view!
The Ferry will begin service in Haverstraw by August 1, 2007. The news has been released by the County of Rockland and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. There will be two rides (5:45AM and 7:05AM) in the morning commute and two back to Rockland in the evening (5:30PM and 6:30PM from Pier 11 and 5:42PM and 6:42PM from the World Financial Center).

I am just a little confused at this point. What is the difference, or is there a difference between the NY Water Taxi and the Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry.
The Haverstraw-Ossining ferry is just that, a ferry between Haverstraw and Ossining. That ferry service is run by the New York Waterway. The NY Water Taxi ferry goes between Haverstraw, Yonkers, and the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan. That’s the difference.
