  1. When is GDC going to start building on the waterfront at the end of Main Street? How long before Haverstraw makes its “turn-around”?

  2. I can’t really say when Ginsburg will be starting at the end of Main…everything is really hinging on the condemnation of the Empire Chair Factory site. Once the site is seized by the village, construction can start there. I would give it about another year or so. As for Haverstraw’s turnaround…we can only guess how long it will take. It could be from 5 to 20 years. It all depends on how much people want to make change.

  3. I’m sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. I hope you made out well with finding a hotel. There are currently no hotels in the Village. There is, however, a bed and breakfast on Hudson Avenue called Bricktown Inn. Again, I hope you found a place to stay and you had a happy holiday! Thanks for visiting HaverstrawLife.

  4. what is going to happen to the people who can’t afford haverstraw after all these changes? will you make them leave or will you have some place for them? Most of these people don’t know what it’s like outside of haverstraw and don’t even speak the language is Ginsburg going to build something for them too?

  5. Ginsburg will be building affordable housing within the Village. The Village government will also look into building some affordable housing. As it is now, the Village of Haverstraw has some of the lowest rents in the entire county, and region. As for progress, it’s unstoppable. Gentrification is the sign of our times; it will likely not change anytime soon.

  6. What is needed is integrated affordable housing. No more “housing projects” in large buildings. The poor must be integrated into the middle and upper class, for affordable housing to be successful, or else slums and gangs will form. We’ve seen this happen over and over in many of the urban cores of the U.S. A new approach to affordable housing must be adopted.

  7. Thank you for answering my questions, but rumors are going around on how the people will have to move and they are scared to have to go somewhere new and have to adopt to those new things. Haverstraw might have the lowest rent but for the people in the village it isn’t, also most of the people don’t understand what is happening and why because nobody tells them so they can understand and be able to have a say in these changes.

  8. I would like to say that I very much enjoy your site and its efforts to talk about the issues, history, and highlights of the Village. Sitting around and complaining, which I have seen on other websites, will not get any improvements in place. Singing the praises of the community to others and each person doing what he or she can to contribute to a strong, vital Haverstraw is what will make this village the best that it can be. Kudos to you for doing your part!
