Today is National Cupcake Day! Yes, seriously, there is such a thing. And the best place to celebrate in the Lower Hudson Valley is Bella Sophia Sugar Crafts in Haverstraw. The dessert parlor and bakery sells their mouth-watering (and gorgeous) desserts, hosts classes to create your own, and takes orders for more substantial treats (like wedding cakes; Bella is renowned for their cakes and have been featured on The Knot, etc.) Also, remember that decorating cupcakes is one of the many things to do in the Lower Hudson Valley this month!

A lovely, young married couple, Eva and Joe, worked so hard to bring this wonderful cake and dessert parlor to Downtown Haverstraw, N.Y. The two named their bricks and mortar storefront after their daughter and have been building their wedding cake and specialty dessert business for several years.

During the warmer months, you can sit outside in the back patio, which looks like a walled-in, secret garden oasis. But for winter, vintage pink and white striped wallpaper, and a dainty chandelier adorning the ceiling are just the right touches to keep you cozy during these chilly months. The parlor is like a cross between Serendipity and Magnolia, but at the same time, it is unlike any other in the region.
Eva and Joe are so sweet (just like the awesome sweets they create), and allowed me to take a sneak peak during one of their Cupcake Christmas Wreath workshops! It’s super difficult to catch them not smiling.

Even though it was a work night, all the participants were eager to decorate, and with cheerful music playing in the background, everyone was in a creative and festive mood.
From the colorful storefront and décor, to the innovative flavor combinations they have created, Eva and Joe are quickly making their way to the top of list of Rockland’s best eats!
